  7.      UPGRADES: 
  8.      -------------------------------------------------------------------------
  9.      You can safely copy ALL files from an upgraded version of B&B 
  10.      SaleLead to your disk.  All file renaming and updating will be handled 
  11.      automatically as soon as you enter 'SALELEAD'.
  12.      
  13.      B&B SaleLead will automatically upgrade to the newest file version 
  14.      whenever it detects an older version AND the existence of the upgrade 
  15.      files.  
  16.      
  17.      STEPS TO UPGRADE:
  18.      1.  Put New B&B SaleLead files on a disk in A:
  19.      2.  Hard disk users: Change directory to location of B&B SALELEAD 
  20.          (CD\SALELEAD) AND copy all files to this directory (eg. C:>COPY A:*.*)
  21.      2.  Floppy disk users: COPY any .EXE and documentation type files to 
  22.          Current System disk in B: (eg. B:>COPY  A:*.exe).  
  23.          Put Data disk in B: and Copy All other files to data disk.

  27.      B&B SALELEAD version 2.3 changes

  30.      Erase file config.mem (installation set-up values), if errors are 
  31.      incurred at startup.
  32.      
  33.      1. The SaleLead.dbf file has been changed. The changes are:REDUCTION in 
  34.         size of the remarks from 79 characters to 69 characters (the last 10 
  35.         characters will be lost in conversion), and the ADDITION of a field 
  36.         for COMMISSION dollars that may have been paid to a Sales 
  37.         Representative.
  38.        
  39.         If your documentation and your edit/add screens DO NOT indicate the 
  40.         existence of a COMMISSIONS field, you .dbf needs to be upgraded to the 
  41.         newest salelead.dbf format.  The salelead.dbf included in this set of 
  42.         files is the newest format.  B&B SaleLead will do this conversion for 
  43.         you if you copy salelead.dbf onto your disk/directory under the name 
  44.         upgrade.dbf (eg. COPY A:salelead.dbf C:\Salelead\upgrade.dbf).
  45.      
  46.         PLUS,

  48.      2. There are more Letter Set-up values and an option to accept all 
  49.         previously defined values, with one keystroke. (In order to have the 
  50.         NEW letter set-up values saved in the memory file, ERASE the file 
  51.         called config1.mem).
  52.           
  53.      3. Three new files have been added. Two are:Rep.dbf & Repcode.ndx.  These 
  54.         files store your sales staff's Sales Representative names and phone 
  55.         numbers. The reason for adding this information is to allow the option
  56.         to print Sales Rep names on the sales letters, instead of a generic 
  57.         closing in the ENding letter.  The Rep name printed on letters is 
  58.         dependent on the Rep/Territory code on the Sales Lead records.
  59.      
  60.      4. The third file is a new extrnote.frm file, and is meant to provide an 
  61.         easy way to print the Extra Notes made for Sales Leads.  This can be 
  62.         ignored if the Extra Notes feature is not used extensively.  It is 
  63.         provided for the convenience of anyone who needs this reporting 
  64.         capability, but does not have dBaseIII (or doesn't want to use 
  65.         dBaseIII) to develop a .frm file for reporting this data.  
  66.      
  67.      5. Improved [E]dit mode allows 'paging through' records with PgUp and 
  68.         PgDn keys, AND direct printing of a letter from the editing mode.
  69.  
  70.      6. Improved [R]eport option will now allow a choice between printing 
  71.         labels OR LETTERS.  The advantage with printing letters here is being 
  72.         able to utilize the 'screening' options to select records for printing.
  73.      
  74.      7. On-line help expanded.
  75.      
  76.      8. When printing many letters, F-10 will exit if you desire to terminate
  77.         printing.
  78.      
  79.      9. A Form letter option has been added to allow printing of FORM letters 
  80.         based REGARDLESS of any Product/Service Interest codes on the 
  81.         individual Sales Lead record.

  83.      10. The name of the letter set-up values file has been changed from 
  84.          config1.mem to ltrsetup.mem.
  85.      
  86.      11. A feature has been added for users with printers having two paper 
  87.          feed trays (such as HP Laserjet 500+).  You can now have letterhead 
  88.          fed from the top tray for page 1 of the letter, and plain bond paper 
  89.          fed from the bottom tray for subsequent pages.  In order to use this 
  90.          feature, you will need to erase any config.mem or configa.mem files, 
  91.          and re-install.

  93.      12. If your current word processor cannot load into memory because it is 
  94.          too large to fit in memory, or you don't have a word processor, the 
  95.          file WEDIT.EXE has been included in your package to use as a 
  96.          simplified word processor for the Extra Notes feature. You do not 
  97.          have to enter WEDIT in the installation process, because it is the 
  98.          default name.  Upon entering 'Extra Notes', WEDIT will run, and you 
  99.          can start entering text.  Use the ESC key to see the functions that 
  100.          are available. Ctrl-W will save, Ctrl-Q will abandon your file.
  101.      
  102.      13. Label printing allows the Nth sampling technique, whereby you can 
  103.          elect to skip 9 records, and print only every 10th, or every 20th 
  104.          label for sampling purposes.
  105.      
  106.       14. SaleLead.Ovl + SaleLead.Dbc files are sometimes included with the 
  107.           SaleLead.Exe file for low memory (<640K) or machines that are using 
  108.           memory for other functions (TSR - Terminal and Stay Resident 
  109.           programs). If they aren't included, the salelead.exe is all you 
  110.           need, as long as you have most of your 640K available.  The main 
  111.           difference, besides being able to fit in memory, is that the 
  112.           SaleLead versions with .EXE, .OVL and .DBC files are slightly slower
  113.           because the .OVL file has to be transferred into memory when needed.

  119.      1.  Greater flexibility has been added for selecting records.  'Flexi-
  120.          Select' is a feature that provides a list of all data fields and 
  121.          prompts you to select 'conditions' for each field.  For example, you 
  122.          can select only those records that have a COMPANY NAME = 'ACME'.  
  123.          Or, you can select to string your selections together like: COMPANY 
  124.          NAME='ACME'  AND ZIP='61'.
  125.          Flexi-Select is available in the EDIT, REPORT, and MAINTENANCE 
  126.          (deletion) modes.

  128.          In addition, once you make your selection, it will be saved in a 
  129.          separate data base called FSelect.dbf.  And when you use Flexi-Select,
  130.          you will see all previously defined Flexi-Selections, and can use 
  131.          them over and over.

  133.      2.  Zip Code expanded to 10 characters long for those wishing to use 
  134.          ZIP+4 with a dash.

  150.          renames them for you automatically.  The only old file versions you 
  151.          may wish to retain are any .FRM files you may have revised.

  184.      1.  If you are an existing B&B Salelead user, run the program CHGLTRS 
  185.          first.  Why?  
  186.          B&B SaleLead now uses simple ASCII type files for letters. CHGLTRS.EXE
  187.          will convert your old letter files for you into .LTR text files that
  188.          can be edited or created with any word processor that has an ASCII 
  189.          mode.
  190.      
  191.      2.  You can include VARIABLE information anywhere in your letters by 
  192.          enclosing data in {} curly brackets in your .LTR files.  You can also
  193.          change printer fonts "on the fly" by using square brackets [] in your
  194.          .LTR files to start new font/return to original font codes.
  195.  
  196.      3.  Flexi-Label now allows entering TEXT, DATA or PRINTER CONTROL 
  197.          COMMANDS in your labels.
  198.  
  199.      4.  More Menubars for ease of use.  For example, when using FLEXI-SORT,
  200.          FLEXI-REPORT, or FLEXI-SELECT, you will choose which fields you want
  201.          to SORT on, REPORT on or SELECT on, from a menubar list of fields.

  203.      5.  More extensive use of Memory files (*.MEM), and separate 
  204.          'SALESORT.MEM', 'SALESELE.MEM' and 'SALERPT.MEM' files which will be 
  205.          automatically created and used to save your different sorts, record
  206.          selections and report definitions without having to re-define them 
  207.          each time.

  209.      6.  Duplicate checking has been improved to print 'multiple' duplicates
  210.          (ie. triplicates, etc.) continuously on the printed list.

  212.      7.  A 'QUICK LABEL' feature has been added to allow printing of single
  213.          labels by entering 'L' or 'ctrl-L' while in the EDITING mode.

  215.      8.  Ability to RUN dBaseIII type LABEL & REPORT files from with SALELEAD.

  217.      9.  Ability to send REPORT OR LABEL output to the Screen, Printer, 
  218.          or a Disk File for manipulation by other software packages.

  220.     10.  Exporting a file: you can now Flexi-SORT your file, Flexi-SELECT
  221.          certain records, and even select the individual fields (and their
  222.          order) that will be exported, in the export process.  Also, export 
  223.          Ventura Publishing type files (for address book type files).

  225.     11. The Biggest Change is the introduction of:FLEXI-LABEL.  Choosing
  226.          this option will present you with a theoretical label 20 lines long
  227.          which allows you to enter ANY FIELDS or ANY TEXT in ANY POSITION 
  228.          or ORDER.  You will still be able to print up to 4 across labels,
  229.          using any starting position, and any vertical/horizontal spacing.
  230.          ALSO, you have the capability to enter Printer Control codes ON ANY
  231.          label line, allowing you to underline, change fonts, whatever.
  232.  
  233.     12.  When choosing to ADD while in the Edit mode, the new record will 
  234.          contain data from the record currently marked by the cursor.  Handy 
  235.          when a new label is desired very similar to an existing label.
  236.  
  237.     13.  When in the EDIT mode, in addition to searching for Specific records
  238.          based on Last Name or Record # (Quickest way),  you can elect to 
  239.          use a GENERAL Search by entering data in ANY of the other fields, 
  240.          and SALELEAD will search for the first matching record.  If can
  241.          also search for data contained anywhere in the field by preceding
  242.          the search data with a ? (eg. ?xx).
  243.  
  244.     14.  A handy Printer utility has been added in the Maintenance Menu.
  245.          You can select from a variety of predefined printer control codes
  246.          to send to your printer.  The defaults are Epson Compatible codes,
  247.          but they can be modified for use with YOUR printer.
  248.  
  249.     15.  The use of color codes is now automatically dependent on the computer
  250.          being used, so re-installation is not required if moving from
  251.          monochrome to color. In order for this to be controlled automatically,
  252.          you must ERASE config.mem and re-install version 3.0. 
  253.  
  254.     16.  SALELEAD.EXE files dated after 2-8-89 will allow you to FORCE the use 
  255.          of monochrome screen definitions for those systems (ie. laptops with
  256.          flat screens) that are considered color, but do not provide the best
  257.          resolution. Just type 'SALELEAD MONO' at DOS.
  258.  
  259.     17.  The Flexi-REPORT now allows you to define paper width so that you can 
  260.          "bend" the line of data to the next line.  If you want to print a
  261.          line of data that is 200 characters long, and define a report width
  262.          of 80 characters, the data will "wrap" to the next line.
  263.  
  264.     18.  There are now only three interest codes, but they are 8 characters
  265.          long (the same length as DOS file names) to make it easier to 
  266.          correlate the interest code with the DOS .LTR file that pertains to 
  267.          it.  Each interest code has an associated Quote field and Quote 
  268.          amount so that you can include quotes and quantities in your letters.

  292.          CHRONOLOGICAL TO-DO List based on TODO date you enter in file.

  294.      8.  Tickler Dates have been replaced by 4 Action/Date fields.  You can
  295.          enter future dates in Date1 to use as a tickler date.  Plus, when 
  296.          printing letters, letter name/date is inserted into action1/date1
  297.          fields so you can always review dates/action of past contacts.
